Scopus call for paper: Special Issue on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability @Elsevier

The fast development of a wide range of methods within the area of artificial intelligence (AI) is having a significant impact on everyone’s lives. Despite the numerous advantages associated to AI, there are also potential risks derived from inadequate usage / development of these technologies. It is therefore crucial to provide a general overview on the synergies and tradeoffs associated with AI, particularly in the context of sustainability. One of the areas where significant impact can be observed in transportation, ranging from more efficient vehicle design to optimized network configurations and people mobility, using sustainable and smart infrastructures. All these issues addressing safety, reliability, efficiency, and smart and green solutions.

This special issue aims at studying such challenges and welcomes submissions of papers in the field Artificial Intelligence applications in transportation engineering, with particular emphasis on:

  1. AI on sustainability of integrated transport systems.
  2. AI on Transportation infrastructures.
  3. AI on controlling systems (signal control of traffic, dynamic route guidance, mobility, train control on railroads, and air traffic control…).
  4. Computer-aided design, including vehicles, geometric design of all modes of transport, interchange design, structural design and management.
  5. AI in autonomous vehicles.
  6. Optimization problems abound in transportation.
  7. AI in decision-support capabilities.

Deadline for Submissions: end of March 2021
