Scopus call for papers: Special Issue on “AI in the Energy Industry” @Elsevier

About Call for Papers:

The energy industry is the totality of all of the industries involved in the production and sale of energy, including fuel extraction, manufacturing, refining and distribution. Modern society consumes large amounts of fuel, and the energy industry is a crucial part of the infrastructure and maintenance of society in almost all countries. This industry is transforming rapidly driven by concerns on CO2 emissions, decreasing profit margins, attempts to improve the efficiency of raw material use and energy consumption, safety enhancement and other environmental challenges. Meanwhile, large datasets have been generated from industrial units, experimental setups, and even numerical models but are mostly unexploited. These large datasets remain to be analysed, understood and used for modelling and optimization at various levels of the chemical process industry accounting for market variations.

On the other hand, artificial intelligence including perception, neural network, machine learning, knowledge representation and so on, has been driving revolutions in diverse areas, such as autonomous vehicles, robotic manipulators, image analysis, computer vision, art creation, natural language processing, time-series analysis, and target online advertisement. This has made AI algorithms/methods a promising tool to be utilised in modelling and optimization of chemical processes.

This special issue aims to publish selective novel on-going research contributions towards new algorithms and/or techniques in application of artificial intelligence methods to the energy industry. Potential topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Innovative modelling approaches integrating first principles and AI
  • Hybrid modeling and multiple-objective optimization
  • Deep learning approaches in modelling and diagnosis
  • Data-driven modeling, optimization and decision making
  • Environmental pollution reduction using AI
  • Pollutant monitoring and tracing using AI
  • Digitalization, visualization and interpretation of Energy processes and virtual process manufacturing
  • Smart optimal design, operation and control using AI
