The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) is a prestigious national law university that has continuously been placed among India’s best legal schools. It was founded in 1999 under the WBNUJS Act (West Bengal Act IX of 1999). It is a university as defined by Section 2 subsection (f) and Section 12-B of the UGC Act, 1956, and the Bar Council of India has granted it permanent affiliation.

The academic community of the law school has created a name for itself in more than one subject of law, with a diversified mix of academics and students recruited from practically every corner of India. The Chancellor of NUJS is the Chief Justice of India, who also serves as Chairman of the General Council, the University’s highest policy-making body. The University aspires to continue its tradition of merit in many disciplines of law under the current leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti, one of India’s most regarded and known legal experts, and backed by a rich and diverse faculty.

Further Details

During the academic year 2019-20, WBNUJS established the Centre for Research and Studies in Land, Mining, and Real Estate Laws (‘CRSLMREL’). Dr. M.P. Chengappa [Assistant Professor (Law), NUJS] serves as the Center’s director and supervisor.

Environmental law, the efficacy of regulatory regimes, the functioning of the market economy, and social welfare are all impacted by issues relating to land acquisition, real estate, and mining regulations. As a result, discussion of land, mining, and real estate legislation is crucial. Many law firms across the country have specific staff that are solely responsible for this.

  • Constitutionality of regulatory framework in state real estate
