Internship in public international law and counter-terrorism

The T.M.C. Asser Instituut is offering (recently graduated) Masters or advanced law students the opportunity to enrich their knowledge with practical experience of working in the field of public international law (PIL), (inter)national security and counter-terrorism (CT).

The Institute currently offers one intern position for the project described below.

The intern will work mainly on:

  • The GCTF-funded Interactive Content Project under the supervision of Drs. Rumyana van Ark, Sofia Stolk and Tarik Gherbaoui;
  • Research tasks on PIL and CT.

What we offer:
A paid (€ 300 to € 450 a month, based on a full-time position, depending on level of education) internship for a period of 6 months, starting 1 February 2022 for a recently graduated Masters or an advanced law student specialising in public international law, (inter)national security and/or counter-terrorism. The internship will start online only but, circumstances permitting, we will offer the opportunity to work in the office at a later stage. The intern will be part of the project team and will join the regular online team meetings.

Interested candidates should:

  • Have a Master/LLM in or be currently enrolled in a Master Programme in public international law, (inter)national security or equivalent;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Modern Standard Arabic;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Have strong (legal) analysis and writing skills and affinity with public outreach and communication activities;
  • Have good team spirit but also be able to work independently;

The selected applicants will be invited for interviews via Zoom, which will take place on 18 and 19 January 2022. The envisaged start date is 1 February 2022
