The Kapila & Nirmal Hingorani Foundation Pegasus Scholarship programme

This programme is being run in collaboration with the prestigious Pegasus Scholarship Trust. The programme is intended to provide young lawyers in India with first-hand experience of the working of the legal system in England and Wales over a period of eight weeks, while young legal practitioners from England and Wales would be provided an opportunity to witness the Indian legal system on a reciprocal basis.

The Scholarship awarded by the Foundation to the Indian lawyer would entail spending three to four weeks each at two different sets of barristers’ chambers in London which practice in the scholar’s preferred areas of law. These placements would involve opportunities to see advocacy in action, and the scholar would typically be asked to assist with research and/or drafting. The scholar would usually get to visit various institutions such as the Supreme Court, the High Court and the Old Bailey, where the scholar would be looked after by a Judge of that Court for the day.

The scholar would be provided with a stipend to cover living costs and would also be given assistance in securing accommodation in London. The scholarship does not cover any other expenses, such as return flight tickets, visa, travel-related costs and insurance (medical/health, travel). It would be the responsibility of the scholar to meet Covid-19 related requirements to visit the U.K. The Foundation takes no responsibility should the scholar contract Covid-19 or require medical care. The scholar should

  •  be a citizen of India
  •  be a practising lawyer in India
  •  should have been in practice for less than seven years on the date of the submission of the application.

Young legal practitioners in the U.K. who are interested in applying for The Kapila & Nirmal Hingorani Foundation Pegasus Scholarship to spend eight weeks in India are advised to contact the Pegasus Scholarship Trust.
