CALL FOR PAPERS: Law and Criminal Justice HYBRID Conference: University of Venda (27-28 October,2022)

THEME: RULE OF LAW AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN CONTEMPORARY SOUTH AFRICA

The investigation of the root causes and the quest to seek solutions to the above underlying issues from a legal and criminal justice perspec- tive form the foundation of this hybrid confer- ence founded on the following themes from a South African or comparative perspective:

  • Litigating the Bill of Rights and the continued relevance and impact of the South African Consti tution;
  • The significance of the doctrine of sepa ration of powers and its limits;
  • The appointment of judges and Heads of Court;
  • Judicial misconduct;
  • Theoretical and practical approaches to causes of
    crime;
  • White collar crime, cybercrime, and the curse of the
    4IR;
  • Fraud and securities fraud;
  • Corruption and embezzlement;
  • corporate fraud and money laundering;
  • Salary and wage theft;
  • Identity theft;
  • Theoretical and practical approaches to the
    achievement of justice and equality
  • Forgery and bribery;
  • Copyright infringement, piracy, and IP-related
    criminal conduct;
  • The criminal liability of incorporated bodies and corporate governance;
  • Organs of the State and institutional
    accountability;
  • ICT security and governance
  • The state’s responsibility to respect and promote constitutional obligations;
  • Some findings of the State Capture Com mission; and
  • Africanized and decolonized jurisprudential approaches to some of the highlighted problems
  • The conference will be the main event leading to this year’s Justice Moseneke Lecture, held annually by the School of Law at the main campus of the University of Venda in Thohoyandou.
  • Papers addressing any of the above topics and providing practical solutions will be welcome.
    Guidelines for submission of papers
    Abstracts not exceeding 300 words bearing the title, name, and institutional affiliation of the author, email address, and no more than five keywords are receiv- able from 01 August 2022 to 15 September 2022.
    Full papers shall be submitted by 20 October 2022.
  • Papers that are of good quality will be peer-reviewed and will feature in any of the two School of Law Book Projects on Law and Criminal Justice, to be published by leading local and international publishers.
    Registration fee
    Physical participants- R1000.00 or US$60.00, this
    covers access to all sessions and conference materials.
    Online participants- R750.00 or US$45.00.
    Early bird registration on or before 30 September 2022- 5% discount.
