LSE Fellow Salary from £38,313 to £46,148 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £49,614 pa inclusive This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months from October 2022

The Department of Gender Studies established to address the major intellectual challenges posed by contemporary changes in gender relations, is the largest research and teaching unit of its kind in Europe. Academic staff come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, but we are united in our commitment to mapping and intervening in the gendered nature of social processes, and in our belief that an integrated interdisciplinary and global approach is needed to do so. In our research and teaching we combine theory and practice, with an interdisciplinary and transnational perspective.



We are looking to recruit a candidate at the level of LSE Fellow to teach primarily on our MSc programme in Gender, Peace and Security, as well as contribute to our core course in gender theories. To this end, we require someone with excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers, including on a one-on-one basis and in small groups.



All applicants should have:

– A completed PhD (all corrections submitted and approved) in social sciences, humanities or a closely related subject at the start of employment. Applicants who have completed their viva and have only minor corrections at the time of application will be considered.

– A very good knowledge of and developing research record of gender peace and security with a focus on one or more of the following:

o theorising policy and practice relating to the women, peace and security agenda;

o gendered approaches to peace, conflict resolution, peacekeeping peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction;

o human rights, international law and transitional justice;

o countering violent extremism, securitisation;

o political economy approaches to violence; sexuality, embodiment and war;

o critical military studies;

o the humanitarian and aid industry or other related fields.

– Experience teaching on courses where gender issues are a central focus

– Experience working with policies, practitioners and professionals in a consultative and/or pedagogic manner in areas related to gender, peace and security.
