“Politics of Development and Disparities in India”

About the Organiser
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, is a Deemed to be University, fully funded by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. With campuses at Mumbai (Main) and off-campuses at Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad, TISS offers over 50 Post Graduate programmes, 18 Doctoral programmes, and 3 Under Graduate programmes in a range of socially relevant inter-disciplinary and applied social science disciplines, and over 30 B.Voc. Programmes.

Themes
The conference’s themes are mentioned below, and a paper should engage with one or two questions within the themes and critically discuss and analyse.

However, a paper can be beyond the mentioned questions, but the analysis should be done within the frame of politics of development comprising any section of people and/or any sector of development and/or the caste or regional state power in a context of disparities and inequalities.

  1. State-society-development relations
    (1) Who controls and acquires the state power frequently, and what is their relation with society and resources?
    (2) Why are the public resources distributed the way it is within the state or region, and what is the relation with the state power?
    (3) Why some of the states are backward, and what have been their nature and characteristics of society, development approach and state power?
  2. Public policy and programme analysis
    (4) What is the interest and ideology behind any particular development policy and programme, and who has or will be benefited more and how?
    (5) What were/are the conflict of interest with the state power in implementing pro-poor public policy and programme?

Abstract submission
