The Department of Public Economics of the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) to start as soon as possible.

The Department of Public Economics is a group of researchers chaired by Kai A. Konrad. The group conducts basic research in the area of Public Economics and the Political Economy of Governance. In addition to classical topics of international public goods and further issues of in the area of Economics of Governance, central research questions on the agenda include problems in the field of Geoeconomics, such as the conflict and competition between the U.S. and China. The research uses economic tools of foreign trade theory/policy, international tax and fiscal theory/policy, and industrial organization theory, as well as quantitative tools from political science, such as empirical analysis and formal modelling.

The Institute is a member institute of the Max Planck Society (MPG). The MPG is one of the worldwide leading international research institutions. The Institute has an excellent research infrastructure, an international and strong team of researchers and the financial and institutional resources to conduct laboratory and internet-based experiments. It closely collaborates with the department of economics at the University of Munich (LMU).

Your profile

The ideal candidate has excellent knowledge in the field of applied game theory / international public economics / political economy. The applicant has completed (or is about to complete) a PhD in the field of economics or political science on a topic that is related to the research topics mentioned above. Knowledge and experience in the design, programming and evaluation of laboratory based or internet-based experiments is desirable. The candidate is willing to contribute to the ongoing or already designed research questions in international political economy / geoeconomics and to pursue this and further work up to the state of journal publication. Fluency in written and spoken English is expected, command of German language is an advantage.

Our offer

The position is a qualifying position, in which the researcher can qualify for positions with higher seniority at universities and research institutions through scientific work and publishing. The position is limited to three years. An extension is possible. Remuneration is based on qualifications and professional experience according to the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD-Bund). In addition, social benefits are granted according to the regulations for the public service (Bund).
