About Government Law College, Mumbai

The Government Law College, Mumbai, (GLC Mumbai), founded in 1855, is one of the oldest law schools in Asia. The college, affiliated with the University of Mumbai, is run by the Government of Maharashtra.

The Debating and Literary Society of Government Law College, Mumbai, has always endeavoured to foster a culture of discourse, dissent, fair critique and discussion of important issues that are relevant in society. Whether it is through debates or literary events the point has always been to be able to give people a space to voice their opinions on contentious issues.

Theme

Independence of judiciary: the collegium in question?

The Collegium system has been in much debate in the past few months and we would like to provide you a chance to give your two cents on it. We also have the following sub-themes for the same:

Guidelines

  • All submissions must be in the Word (docx. /doc) format, along with the following guidelines.
  • Font – Times New Roman, Size 12
  • Page Border – 1 inch on all sides.
  • Citation – All sources must be appropriately cited by using hyperlinks. Wherever, hyperlinks are not available, endnotes can be used by conforming to the MLA citation method.
  • Plagiarism above 15% will not be condoned.
  • Submissions for Policy Review should not exceed the word limit of 1500 words (inclusive of endnotes).
  • Co-authorship of a total of two authors is permitted.

The first three prizes will be announced at the Policy Debate on 4th March, 2023 in Mumbai.

Participation certificates will be mailed to all the participants.
