About the Centre

The Centre for Law and Medicine, DNLU was established to address the legal aspects of medical practice including ethical aspects of biomedicine (where human beings are directly involved), referred to as bioethics, is a new and increasingly developing interdisciplinary field where the ethical, legal and social implications of medicine is discussed and studied with seriousness.

The Centre aims to bring multidisciplinary perspectives to bear on the legal and ethical issues of the day arising out of medical research and practice. The focal areas of the Research Centre are the areas where
medical research and practice intersects with the law and ethics.

Call for Blogs

The Centre for Law and Medicine invites contributions from Academicians, Legal and Medical practitioners, Researchers and Students to its newsletter with an aim to publish articles related to the field of medical research and Law.

The Centre will try to accommodate all quality submissions to create an open-access platform for the study of this specialized area of Medicine and Law.

Theme

This issue of the newsletter is proposed on the theme “Ethics of Artificial Intelligence In Medicine.”

Submission Deadline

The centre welcomes submissions from interested authors on or before the May 8, 2023.

About the Theme

The ever-evolving area of medicine is essential for improving human longevity and quality of human life. The new technologies and advancements in this field are valuable. The theme explores the bioethical
implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine. AI, which was first introduced in the 1950s, is defined as “the machine simulation of human mental reasoning, decision making, and behavior”.

The increased power of computing, expansion of storage capacity, and compilation of medical big data helped the AI implementation surge in medical practice and research. AI applications in healthcare have literally changed the medical field, including imaging and electronic medical records (EMR),
laboratory diagnosis, treatment, augmenting the intelligence of the physicians, new drug discovery, providing preventive and precision medicine, biological extensive data analysis, speeding up processes, data storage and access for health organizations.

Sub-Themes

The authors are allowed to choose any topic of their choice under the said theme. The following sub-themes which an author can choose, but not limited to:

  • Applications of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare sector
  • Liability determination issues in AI driven medical practices
  • Digitalization of healthcare
  • Privacy regulation in era of digitalization
  • Human Rights in the age of AI

Submission Guidelines

  • The submission should be around 700-800 words (exclusive of the endnotes/footnotes, if any).
  • All works must be original and unpublished. Any form of plagiarism will lead to disqualification for publication on the Blog.
  • Keep your title brief and ensure that the title clearly communicates the topic and conveys the essence of the piece to the reader.
  • While formatting the document, the author(s) should keep the following things in mind:
    • Font style: Times New Roman, Font Size: 12, Headings: 14, Line spacing: 1.5.
    • All the relevant authorities should be duly acknowledged and hyperlinked in the text of the submission itself. If hyperlinks are not available, then footnotes (Bluebook 20th edition) can be used.
    • Further, if the author relies on a specific document to support an argument, pinpoint citations must be included.
    • All submissions must be sent in a MS word document to [email protected].
  • The author should send their details in a separate document as a cover letter along with the manuscript.
