About Indian Law Review

The Indian Law Review is an academic-led, double- blind peer-reviewed, generalist journal on the laws of the Indian subcontinent. The objects and purposes of the Review are:

  • To publish peer reviewed scholarship about the laws of the Indian subcontinent spanning all areas of law, including comparative perspectives that engage with the laws of the Indian subcontinent.
  • To offer a forum for the community of scholars who work on laws of the Indian subcontinent, both within and outside the subcontinent.
  • To take a broad multidisciplinary approach to the study of laws of the Indian subcontinent, thereby reaching a wide readership including legal academics, philosophers, criminologists, anthropologists, sociologists, historians, political scientists, legal practitioners and others.
  • To cultivate, support and promote legal scholarship and education for those working on the laws of the Indian subcontinent, and, in particular, those based in the Indian subcontinent.
  • To respect academic freedom in all its activities.

Themes

The call is open to all areas of law, including topics that are of particular interest to the ILR which include the decade-long experience of the Companies Act 2013, the evolution of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, and caste and the law.

Submission Guidelines

  • Proposals should contain a minimum of 5 research articles, to be structured around a common theme. Articles should be 8,000-10,000 words long, inclusive of footnotes, tables and appendices.
  • Proposals should comprise an explanation of the theme of the special issue along with brief explanations of the articles to be included and author details (maximum 1,000 words).
  • Applicants will be notified of the success or otherwise of their applications within 2 months of the deadline.

Submission Deadline

  • The deadline for proposals is 30 September 2023.
  • The deadline for receipt of the special issue is 8 April 2024, after which it will go through peer review.
