Introduction

This special issue brings together researchers and clinicians working in the field of young people with forensic and mental health needs and related disciplines that explore the intersection of risks of harm to others and vulnerabilities. Papers in this special issue will bring together research to highlight the links between young people’s mental health needs and vulnerabilities with their risk of violence towards others in the community. It will explore the impact, experiences, and support needs of those presenting with this risk and the impact of violence by young people on the wider public. By drawing on a broad range of topics that span across society, we will showcase the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of research in this area. The papers in this special issue will also contribute to the evidence base for assessment and interventions with young people presenting with a risk of violence. It is hoped that contributions will be made that outline the reality of the scope of the problem and innovations in how this is being addressed. Such innovation can be the first steps in identifying key strategies or intervention actions related to communities and wider society that may drive social change
