Closes:

Introduction

This special issue of the Tizard Learning Disability Review focuses on the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) in the UK context, exploring the realities of translating theory into practice. Despite widespread endorsement, PBS implementation often faces systemic, organisational, and practical challenges. This edition aims to:

  • Critically examine the effectiveness and sustainability of PBS in real-world UK settings.
  • Explore the experiences of individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and support staff in PBS-informed services.
  • Highlight innovative approaches, overcoming barriers, and lessons learned from PBS implementation.
  • Investigate the role of policy, workforce development, and organisational culture in embedding PBS.
  • Provide evidence-based insights to inform future practice and policy development.

By bringing together research, case studies, and lived experiences, this edition aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on making PBS more accessible, effective, and impactful in improving the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities
