Introduction

The special issue aims to synergise the interrelated themes of regeneration, digitalisation, circular economy, resilience, and social value within the built environment. It addresses the imperative for regenerative built and natural environments with digital transformation, towards smart regenerative and future-proofed practices. Emphasis on circularity will generate new insights into closed-loop resource management, highlighting strategies to reduce waste and enhance efficiency.

The focus on resilience will showcase approaches that strengthen the capacity of built environments to withstand shocks and stresses, while emphasising the need for social value realisation to move beyond economically centric assessments to recognition of wider community, social, and environmental benefits. Importantly, the issue seeks to bridge theory, policy, practice and business through innovative practices, strategies, case studies, policy frameworks, and governance models in this domain.

By aligning these dimensions with global sustainability agendas, it would advance scholarly discourse while opening actionable pathways for industry and policy transformation.
