History

Initially launched in 2000, Good Autism Practice was a collaborative journal produced by Bild in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, Autism West Midlands and Scottish Autism.

The journal focused on promoting and sharing effective practice and innovative approaches in supporting autistic people throughout their lives.

For 25 years, Good Autism Practice was edited by Glenys Jones of the University of Birmingham and aimed to meet the needs of both practitioners and autistic people, providing a forum for sharing practical insights, research, and reflective evaluations with real-world application. Good Autism Practice included contributions from practitioners, academics, family-carers, and autistic people, promoted participatory research and sought to be accessible to broad readership including those working in health, education, and social care.

From 2026, Good Autism Practice’s legacy will be its appearance as an annual special issue within Advances in Autism.

About Bild

Bild is a national charity that, for 50 years, has protected and supported the rights of people with learning disabilities. We want a more fair and equal society where everyone has the same rights and opportunities.

By working in partnership with people with learning disabilities and autistic people, drawing from research and evidence, we identify best practice and what works.
