Lactose intolerance

Submission status

Submission deadline

Lactose intolerance occurs when the body cannot digest lactose, a sugar in milk and dairy products, due to a lack of the enzyme lactase. It causes gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort after consuming lactose-containing foods. Severity varies and is influenced by genetics, with higher prevalence in populations such as East Asian, African, and Native American communities.

This Collection welcomes original research on genetic determinants, diagnostic approaches, and preventive dietary strategies for managing lactose intolerance.
