Technological Innovation, Green Investment, and Economic Resilience in Southeast Asia

Closes:

Introduction

Southeast Asia stands at a critical juncture where rapid technological change and green investment are reshaping the region’s capacity to withstand economic shocks and navigate geopolitical uncertainties. This special issue examines how emerging tools such as digital finance, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainable infrastructure development can simultaneously advance inclusive economic growth with environmental sustainability.

This question is especially pressing given the current global context, where US protectionist policies, volatile trade relationships, and distinct regional environmental vulnerabilities create an increasingly complex landscape for Southeast Asian economies.

Through empirical research, conceptual analyses, and regional case studies, this issue aims to deliver actionable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers. The contributions will engage with the socioeconomic, environmental, and geopolitical implications of green investment, highlighting how these dynamics interact in practice.

Key Themes

  • How technological innovations encompassing digital finance, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainable infrastructure are catalysing green investment across Southeast Asia.

  • The implementation and effects of green finance mechanisms, including green bonds and the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria in investment decision-making processes.

  • Policy architectures and institutional arrangements that connect technological innovation and sustainability objectives with geopolitical risk management strategies at both national and regional scales.
