Organiser: The Australian Centre on China in the World, The Australian National University
Location: ANU, Canberra, Australia
Dates: 19–21 August 2025
In 2021 Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a “common prosperity” initiative to address inequality, including the general wealth gap and rural-urban income disparities. The 2025 China in the World Forum (CIW Forum) will bring together international scholars to examine inequality in all its forms in contemporary China and state responses under the rubric of “common prosperity”. The 2025 China in the World Forum invites submissions of original papers on the following topics:
- Economic and industrial policy
- Rural revitalisation
- Taxation and income redistribution
- Social policies, welfare and social security
- Education
- Social mobility
- Labour rights, gender and ethnicity
- Philanthropy and charity
We welcome scholars who are interested in participating in the 2025 CIW Forum to submit a 300-word abstract, and a brief CV on the Google form before 5pm (Canberra time), 31 January 2025.
Invitations will be sent to selected participants by 21 February 2025. To be eligible to attend the workshop and Forum, complete drafts of papers must be submitted by 25 July 2025. Participants can apply for travel and accommodation subsidies if required. Invitations are not transferrable.
