ENERGISING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: A REVIEW OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL (SDG) 7

A ONE-DAY HYBRID WORKSHOP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD, HUDDERSFIELD, UK, 29^TH AUGUST 2025

We invite abstract submissions for an interdisciplinary workshop on Energising Sustainable Development: A Review of SDG 7, supported by the Society of Legal Scholars’ Small Projects and Events Fund.

As we approach the 2030 target date for the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this workshop aims to critically examine the progress made and challenges encountered in ensuring “access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.” The workshop will bring together experts, policymakers, practitioners, and academics to explore the real-world impacts of energy access initiatives across the Globe.

Key Themes:

We welcome abstracts addressing (but not limited to) the following themes:

• Rural Urban Disparities: Exploring gaps in energy access and quality between rural and urban areas
• Interconnected SDGs: Examining how energy access impacts other Sustainable Development Goals
• Governance Challenges: Balancing national energy strategies with local priorities and traditional practices
• Techno-Economic Factors: Implications of technology choices and economic models of sustainability and social equity
• Unintended Consequences: Unexpected outcomes of energy access initiatives in local communities
• Policy Gaps: Misalignments between national policies, international development agendas, and local realities
• Financing Models: Comparative analysis of different financing approaches for energy access projects
• Capacity Building: The importance of local skills development and community engagement
• Environmental Impact: Assessing the ecological footprint of renewable energy projects
• Data and Monitoring: Challenges in tracking progress toward SDG 7 targets
• Legal and Regulatory Frameworks: Analysis of laws and regulations governing energy access and sustainable development
• Post-Pandemic Challenges: Impact of COVID-19 on sustainable energy initiatives and funding

Abstract Submission Guidelines

• Abstracts should be no more than 300 words
• Include a brief author biography (150 words maximum) and a head and shoulder’s photo
• Please include your name, institutional affiliation, and contact details
• Submissions should be in Word format (.doc or .docx)

Important Dates:

·      Abstract Submission Deadline: 30^th June 2025

·      Notification of Acceptance: 15^th July 2025

·      Workshop Date: 29^th August 2025
