Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Supply Chain Management: Exploring Its Relationship with Human Resources and Supply Management
Changing demographics, aging population, and globalization resulted in a more diverse population in terms of race and ethnicity, cultures, backgrounds, and identities (Tang, 2023). At the same time, the call for equal rights for underrepresented groups, such as women or the LGBQT+ community has an impact on workforce diversity (Roberson, 2019; Tang, 2023). According to Amis et al. (2020), organizational practices in Human Resources Management (HRM), such as hiring, promotion, role allocation, compensation, and structuring, might hinder diversity and cause inequalities in the workforce, and perpetuate unequal working conditions (McCarthy et al., 2021). Individuals tend to prefer working or collaborating with people they regard as similar (Amis et al., 2020; Gligor, 2020). Therefore, managers may use similarities (both in terms of identity and cultural background) when making decisions about whom to hire (Amis et al., 2020) or which supplier to select (Gligor et al., 2021).
This special issue aims to explore engaged research on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and its relationship with Human Resources Management and Supply Management. It will examine both theoretical advancements and practical implications, providing insights into how DEI influences supply chain performance, risk management, and supplier relationships.
