Excessive sugar uptake may lead to health issues, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Added sugar intake, particularly from sweetened beverages and processed foods, leads to a dramatic increase of blood glucose levels, triggering insulin resistance. Additionally, intaking high levels of sugar could increase the risk of cavities and gum disease.
This Collection welcomes original research on sugar intake and health problems, including research on obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
