Call for Applications: for Global Visiting Researcher Programme at Danish Institute for Human Rights, Application Deadline- 1 June 2026
Danish Institute for Human Rights welcomes applications for a new, funded Global Visiting Researcher Programme.
The Danish Institute for Human Rights is launching a new Global Visiting Researcher Programme to strengthen and develop research collaborations with academics primarily based in the global South and other underrepresented regions.
Visiting researchers will engage in thematic areas closely connected to the Institute’s international work. In 2026, the Institute is funding several global visiting researchers within three key areas:
- Technology & human rights: Relevant projects will examine the impacts of new and existing technologies on human rights and democratic governance in the Global South.
- The role of NHRIs in preventing violent extremism in Sahelian and coastal West African contexts: Relevant research will examine the relationship between security governance, human rights protection, the prevention of violent extremism, and the local dynamics of radicalization with a focus on the role that NHRIs can play in the region for the benefit of the population.
- The interaction of customary and informal justice mechanisms with human rights standards and formal justice institutions: The research should review and analyse how engaging with customary law, informal justice systems, community paralegals and formal justice institutions – including lower courts of law – can protect and respect the rights of marginalised groups e.g. women, children, people with disabilities.
Applications are welcomed from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including law, social sciences and humanities, and relevant projects may draw on wide variety of methods.
The programme is grounded in principles of equitable collaboration, mutual learning,and knowledge exchange. The global visiting researcher will be anchored in the research department and linked to the relevant international department.
