Call for Papers| JUST-AI Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Closing Conference 2026, Deadline: 1 September 2026
The JUST-AI Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence is organising its Closing Conference, “The Future(s) of HumA(I)nity: Human Agency, Agentic AI and Agentified AI Governance,” on 29–30 October 2026 in Brussels.
The conference raises an increasingly important question: as AI systems become more autonomous, how do we ensure that technology supports rather than diminishes human agency, freedom and self-determination? The call approaches this through three interconnected dimensions—human agency, technological agency and institutional agency.
⚖️ Indicative themes include:
• Human dignity, self-determination and fundamental rights
• Human control and oversight of AI
• Explainability, bias and Fundamental Rights Risk Assessments
• Agentic AI and gaps in existing regulatory frameworks
• AI in warfare and mass surveillance
• Transparency and trustworthy AI
• EU AI Act implementation and risk classification
• Public and private actors in AI governance
• Administrative and judicial remedies in digital regulation
• Constitutional (re)framing of AI-assisted governance

✈️ Importantly, 10–12 abstracts will be selected, and the JUST-AI Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence will provide selected authors with financial support for round-trip plane/train travel and one night’s accommodation in Liège. Selected speakers will subsequently be invited to develop their work into a 10,000-word study for consideration for a special journal issue/review or edited volume.
This is particularly relevant for researchers interested in how constitutionalism and fundamental rights must evolve when decision-making power is increasingly distributed between human actors, AI systems and regulatory institutions.
