Call for Applications: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climate Science, Law and Policy at Imperial College London, Application deadline: 15 April 2026

Are you an early-career researcher interested in engaging directly with climate, legal and policy questions?
We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climate Science, Law and Policy to join a new interdisciplinary research initiative at the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment at Imperial College London.

The position focuses on addressing an important challenge: how scientific evidence can inform and strengthen legal frameworks governing climate mitigation ambition. The role will explore how concepts such as “highest possible ambition” and best-effort obligations can be operationalised in practice, drawing on quantitative climate science and mitigation pathway analysis.

The successful candidate will work at the interface of climate science, law, and policy, contributing to research that advances the scientific foundations of legal decision-making. You will collaborate with international teams, publish in leading journals, and help shape an emerging research agenda at this interdisciplinary frontier.

We welcome applications from candidates with a background in climate science, environmental science, energy systems, international law, policy or related fields, and with a deep interest in interdisciplinary research.
We strongly encourage applications from women and candidates from diverse backgrounds, and from those whose experiences and perspectives will strengthen the diversity of our academic community.

Application deadline: 15 April 2026
