Call for Chapters: for International Handbook of Legal Language and Communication: From Text to Semiotics, Springer
We invite chapter proposals for the Legal Translation and Legal Interpreting: Principles, Practice and Quality Assessment section of the forthcoming International Handbook of Legal Language and Communication: From Text to Semiotics.
This section aims to delve into the principles, practice, and quality assessment of legal translation and legal interpreting. For example, we will explore the intricate processes and guiding principles of courtroom interpreting, including the ethical considerations, the roles of interpreters, and the challenges they face in high-stakes legal environments. Additionally, we will examine the practical applications of legal translation and interpreting in various legal scenarios, such as international arbitration, cross-border litigation, and legislative drafting. The quality assessment of legal translation and interpreting will also be a focal point, discussing the criteria for evaluating accuracy, consistency, and fidelity to the original text or speech. We will also explore how legal translators serve as an expert witness in evaluating the translation quality of disputed legal texts for the court.
Submission Information
We encourage proposals that engage with any of the above areas, or related topics, and we are also open to completely new perspectives. To express your interest, please submit a short abstract (approx. 300 words) outlining your proposed contribution along with a brief bio. There is no deadline for submitting proposals.
