Additive Manufacturing: From Fundamental Concepts to Advanced Technologies is a book series dedicated to advancing knowledge across the rapidly evolving field of Additive Manufacturing (AM). Bringing together fundamental principles, emerging technologies, industrial applications and future developments, this series provides an authoritative platform for high-quality scholarship that bridges research and practice. Each volume focuses on a specific aspect of Additive Manufacturing, spanning materials, processes, design methodologies, digital technologies, sustainability, artificial intelligence, standards and industrial transformation. The series encourages authors to integrate scientific rigour with practical insight through industrial case studies, best practices and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Topics of Interest
The series welcomes proposals on topics including, but not limited to:
- Fundamentals of Additive Manufacturing processes, materials, and technologies
- Advanced materials, multifunctional materials, and novel feedstocks
- Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), optimisation, simulation, and digital workflows
- Process monitoring, quality assurance, testing, and performance evaluation
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, intelligent manufacturing, and digital twins
- Sustainability, circular economy, life cycle assessment, and environmental impact
- Biomedical, aerospace, automotive, energy, construction, consumer, and other industrial applications
- Hybrid manufacturing, multi-material fabrication, and functionally graded structures
- Standards, qualification, certification, regulation, and policy
- Future manufacturing paradigms, emerging technologies, and industrial transformation
Format and Authorship
Volumes in the series may take the form of single‑author monographs, co‑authored works or edited collections. The series includes short‑form books of approximately 25,000 – 45,000 words, as well as standard monographs and edited collections of up to 130,000 words.
Contributions may come from:
- Established researchers with strong publication records in AM or related disciplines
- Industry experts with significant applied experience and insight into current challenges and innovations
- Interdisciplinary teams combining academic and practical perspectives
- Early‑career researchers, particularly as co‑authors or chapter contributors within collaborative projects
Intended Readership
The series is intended for researchers, academics, postgraduate students, engineers, designers, manufacturing professionals, educators, policymakers, and consultants working across Additive Manufacturing, materials science, mechanical engineering, product design, digital manufacturing, and related disciplines. The books are designed to serve both as authoritative research references and as valuable teaching resources that support higher education, professional development, and lifelong learning.
Submission Guidelines
The series welcomes single-author monographs, co-authored books, and edited collections. Books may range from approximately 25,000-45,000 words for concise research-focused titles to 130,000 words for comprehensive monographs or edited volumes. Prospective authors are encouraged to discuss their ideas with the Series Editor, Hon. Prof. Eujin Pei (eujin.pei@brunel.ac.uk) at an early stage. Suitable proposals will be evaluated in collaboration with Emerald Publishing before entering the formal proposal review and peer-review process. A proposal, no more than 3 pages, should normally include:
- Proposed book title
- Synopsis outlining the scope, objectives and intended readership
- Provisional table of contents, list of authors and estimated manuscript length
- Brief comparison with existing publications to demonstrate the book’s distinctive contribution
- Anticipated timeline and completion schedule
- Full CV of Author or Editor biographies highlighting relevant expertise (as a separate document from the proposal)
