New Frontiers in Sustainable Finance
The imperatives of sustainability increasingly drive the evolving landscape of finance. As the global economy transitions towards more sustainable practices (Bolton and Kacperczyk 2023), the integration of financial markets (Bauer, Ruof and Smeets 2021), corporate behavior (Li, Shan, Tang and Yao 2024), and innovation (Sautner, Van Lent, Vilkov and Zhang 2023) becomes crucial in aligning economic growth with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals (Starks 2023).
This special issue seeks to explore the forefront of sustainable finance. It provides a platform for cutting-edge empirical and theoretical research that bridges sustainability with corporate policies, investment decisions, the capital market, and regulatory frameworks. The issue aims to offer rigorous and actionable insights into how firms, investors, and policymakers can innovate to meet the dual demands of profitability and sustainability in an increasingly complex and resource-constrained global economy.
As sustainability becomes a core concern for financial institutions, corporations, and regulators worldwide, the contributions to this issue are expected to tackle some of the most pressing and timely topics in the field, ranging from ESG integration, green finance, and climate-related financial disclosures to the evolving role of capital markets in driving sustainable development.
By addressing these cutting-edge challenges, the articles included in this issue will not only advance academic understanding but also inform professional practice and policy design at both national and international levels. We anticipate that the papers published in this special issue will be highly cited and widely read, and shape future research agendas. Our goal is to ensure that this issue becomes a cornerstone in the scholarly discourse on sustainable finance while offering practical value to stakeholders committed to building a more sustainable financial system.
