Recent Insights in FinTech Entrepreneurship: Gender and Digital Disruption
This special issue will explore recent insights in gender and digital disruption in the field of global Financial Technology (FinTech) Entrepreneurship. FinTech is currently a main driver of e-commerce growth and encompasses chat commerce, mobile payments, QR codes, as well as data-focused solutions. Many FinTechs such as Paypal are born globals, offering their services in many countries simultaneously shortly after inception. FinTech plays a crucial role in democratizing access to commercial platforms across borders and has significant implications for financial inclusion. Entrepreneurs have concentrated many of their efforts in the FinTech realm, revolutionizing the development of financial services both in the global north as well as increasingly in the global south. Despite the increase in FinTech firms, there remains a gender disparity in the sector. Deloitte reports that while funding has continued to increase for female founders in FinTech, it remains disproportionately low compared to that given to male entrepreneurs. The special issue will through empirical studies, theoretical contributions, and case-based research, highlight innovative solutions that foster greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the FinTech ecosystem.
The special issue will explore original research articles, conceptual papers, and case studies that advance discussions on gender and digital transformation in financial services.
