Call for Papers – Comparative European Tort Law, 1-2 April 2027 Vienna, Submission Deadline- 15 November 2026

Since 2026, the Annual Conference on European Tort Law (ACET) has hosted a session o ering emerging scholars and those at the more junior end of the academy (up to approximately six years after completing a doctorate) the opportunity to present their work to the conference. Proposals for papers are therefore invited from such colleagues whose work is comparative in approach and relevant to the conference’s substantive interests in European tort law.

The ACET is a Europe-focused but global gathering of tort lawyers, taking place in the magnificent surroundings of Vienna and hosted jointly by the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law and the Institute for European Tort Law of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Graz. The conference’s highlights include presentations on new developments from dozens of European jurisdictions, and a special session with papers on a theme of pressing interest – in 2027, this will be an analysis of tort law’s role when dealing with natural disasters.

Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to be introduced during the ACET’s opening session, to have a poster outlining their work displayed throughout the conference, and to present to the conference on the final day. This will o er an unparalleled opportunity to present and discuss your work and to forge meaningful professional connections across the tort law academy in Europe and beyond. For successful candidates, the organisers will cover the costs of the conference fee and standard travel to and from Vienna. Accommodation will also be provided during the conference. Successful participants in the panel may also wish to submit their work later for consideration by the Journal of European Tort Law.

The organisers are keen to showcase the methodological diversity of new work in comparative law, and are interested in submissions on any substantive topic, involving any jurisdictions, relevant to the conference’s focus on tort law in European and comparative perspective.

Applicants should send a brief CV and an abstract (max. 300 words) outlining their research work and proposed presentation and poster content by 15 November, to: etl@oeaw.ac.at. Examples for previous posters can be found on the ETL homepage. Decisions will be communicated by 1 December. Enquiries can be addressed to etl@oeaw.ac.at.
