Call for Papers: Computational Approaches to Constitutional Law and Government, 22-23 April 2027
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Centre for European, Comparative, and Constitutional Legal Studies
(CECS) at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen invites paper proposals for
a workshop on Computational Approaches to Constitutional Law and
Government.
The workshop brings together scholars working across constitutional law,
comparative politics, judicial studies, empirical legal studies, and computational
social science. It asks how computational methods can advance substantive research
on constitutions, courts, constitutional change, and the institutions of constitutional
government.
We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological work on constitutional texts
and judicial decisions, constitutional design and change, judicial behaviour and
disagreement, citation and textual reuse, constitutional and political discourse,
comparative constitutional datasets, and applications of NLP, machine learning,
word embeddings, and large language models. Contributions on validation,
interpretability, and construct validity are also welcome.
Workshop format and publication
The workshop will be small and discussion-intensive, with approximately 12
participants and no parallel sessions. Accepted participants will circulate a full
paper by 1 April 2027. The workshop may also provide the basis for a potential edited
volume; participation in any subsequent publication project will be optional.
Funding
Accommodation for two nights in Copenhagen will be covered. Travel costs are not
currently guaranteed; external funding is being sought to support participants’ travel
expenses.
Submission
Please submit a 300–400 word abstract and a short biographical note of up to 100
words via the application form.
