CALL FOR PAPERS: FAIRNESS IN DIGITAL CONTRACT LAW: EUROPEAN AND GLOBAL COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVES, 4-5 December 2025
We invite submissions for a research seminar on ‘Fairness in Digital Contract Law: European and Global Comparative Perspectives,’ to be held at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in cooperation with the Polish Association of Law and Economics and the University of Turin’s Department of Law. The event will serve as a platform for critical engagement with the evolving legal framework applicable to digital contracts in Europe (the EU and national law, Switzerland and the UK), North America and the Asia-Pacific Region, on a national, regional and supranational level.
The conference aims to situate this rapidly developing field within its broader legal, economic, geopolitical and technological context. We welcome papers addressing, among other topics, the following themes:
• Doctrinal, structural, and conceptual foundations of fairness in digital contract law, including both business-to-business and business-to-consumer contracts.
• Overlaps, tensions and coherence among the old and new EU instruments (DSA, EU Consumer Law).
• EU Digital Fairness Act and its relation to Contract Law and Consumer Law
• Intersections with the sectoral regulation of different services (e.g., banking, finance and insurance; energy; transport; health; social media and digital entertainment)
• National-level implementation and the enforcement of diversity in the EU
• Intersections with other fields: data protection and privacy, GDPR, data governance
• Recent regulatory developments in non-European jurisdictions
• Enforcement challenges, including collective redress, ADR, ODR.
Abstracts of up to 1,500 words (excluding bibliography) should be submitted by 26 September 2025 to piotr.tereszkiewicz@uj.edu.pl and przemyslaw1.palka@uj.edu.pl. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 3 October 2025.
