About ICSSR

Social and human sciences research enhances our understanding of social reality and the issues and problems that need to be solved. The actionable outcomes of research provide policy inputs and frameworks for socio-economic and all-round development. India has had a rich tradition of thought production in social and human sciences, with historic centers like Takshashila, Nalanda, and Vikramashila. ICSSR aims to establish a symmetry between social research and society in the 21st century to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

About the Conference

The Goods and Services Tax reform constitutes one of the most pivotal tax policy reforms in India’s fiscal history; it seeks to integrate the indirect tax system and promote a seamless national market. From this perspective, the conference aims to explore the socio-economic aspects of the impact of GST reforms, with special regard to digitalization, taxpayer compliance, and how such reforms actually affect the ease of doing business, focusing particularly on Small and Medium Enterprises and informal sector players. The need of the hour is to understand not only the technical changes being introduced in GST rates, structures, and compliance requirements, but also their broader socio-economic implications.
