One-Day Colloquium On India–EU Agricultural Policy Frameworks!
Organized by: Department of Studies in Law, University of Mysore, India; National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) Kochi, India; UCLouvain, IEE St Louis, Belgium
About the Conference
Agriculture remains a foundational pillar of economic development, food security, and rural livelihoods in both India and the European Union (EU). Despite differing socio-economic conditions, institutional arrangements, and market structures, both jurisdictions face common challenges involving sustainability, climate resilience, subsidy reforms, market access, and the protection of small and marginal farmers. These shared concerns create fertile ground for comparative analysis and policy dialogue. The One-Day Colloquium on India–EU Agricultural Policy Frameworks aims to provide a focused platform for scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and sectoral experts to engage in a rigorous examination of the legal and regulatory architectures that shape agricultural policy in India and the EU. Central to the colloquium is an exploration of the contrasting yet intersecting policy orientations: India’s emphasis on food security, minimum support prices, and farmer welfare schemes, versus the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), characterised by direct payments, environmental conditionalities, and market-oriented reforms. Beyond policy comparison, the event encourages interdisciplinary reflection on legal safeguards, institutional accountability, and the socio-economic consequences of reform. Particular attention will be given to the implications of subsidy disciplines, tariff measures, environmental norms, and global value chains on smallholder economies. The colloquium provides space for participants to identify gaps in existing frameworks and propose informed pathways for balanced, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural governance. Ultimately, the One-Day Colloquium on India–EU Agricultural Policy Frameworks seeks to stimulate academically grounded and policy-relevant dialogue aimed at deepening mutual understanding and contributing to evidence-based reform. By fostering cross-regional insights, the event aspires to support more equitable, transparent, and resilient agricultural systems in both India and the European Union.
