Overview of special issue
The special issue will examine property interests, prospects for titling, and environmental concerns in outer space. With already a great deal of superfluous debris circling in low orbit, and the growing interest in asteroid/moon mining, increasing the risk of more debris in space, the theme for this special issue is very timely and topical. These are matters which impact directly on earth, and are being debated in the academic literature, but more must be said about the property and environmental issues, especially as private players enter the market. At stake, is how to regulate and enforce space mining from an international perspective, whilst protecting the commons? The special issue is linked to a recent conference held on 1 May 2020, Property and Real Estate Interest in Outer Space.
