The Institute in Luxembourg conducts research in the areas of European law of civil procedure, international litigation and arbitration and dispute resolution in the financial markets.
The Max Planck Institute Luxembourg would like to appoint a highly qualified
Postdoctoral Researcher (Senior Research Fellow) in International Public Law & Dispute Resolution
• Fixed-term contract for 24 months, contract extension is possible, 40 hrs/week
Your Tasks
Responsible for conducting postdoctoral research (own publications and contribution to common research projects) in the field of public international law, international procedural law, and international adjudication, while playing a central role in undertaking and developing team-driven projects within the Institute and in partnership with international collaborators.
The successful Postdoctoral Researcher will have the responsibility and the authority to, including but not exclusively:
– Write substantial scientific papers and/or books;
– Give presentations at conferences in and outside the MPI;
– Develop a personal research programme to define a clear and realistic agenda and explore the funding opportunities to carry out their research project(s);
– Be involved in specific projects of the Department (such as the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law (MPEiPro) and The Making of Judicial and Arbitral Decisions);
– Be involved in mentoring PhD students (Research Fellows) as needed.
Your Profile
– Completed advanced degree in Law (Dr iur.) or an equivalent academic qualification (PhD, doctorat en droit);
– Expertise in environmental law, ICJ, African courts, historical tribunals would be a strong asset;
– Proficiency in English compulsory (written & oral), other language skills (French/German) are an advantage;
– Detail-oriented with good analytical and problem solving skills;
– Attention to detail and accuracy;
– Excellent organisational and prioritizing skills;
– Multi-tasking skills;
– Leadership ability.
