About the NLSIU, Bangalore
NLSIU was the first National Law University established in India in 1986. The premier law school was set up with a mission to pioneer legal education reforms, and to anchor the transformation of the Indian legal system through research and policy interventions. Consequently, the NLSIU was one of the first institutions in the country to introduce the five-year integrated law degree at the undergraduate level with the commencement of the first batch in 1988.
About the Centre for Child and the Law
CCL is a multidisciplinary research centre engaged in socio-legal and policy research, law reforms, system reforms, and advocacy with the state and central governments to ensure accountability for the rights of the child.
The objectives of the Centre are to enable children to be treated as rights holders; to help institutionalize the human rights-based approach into policy, law and practice on children, and to build the capacity of state and civil society for the more effective realization of child rights.
About the Internship
The Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), NLSIU invites applications from students interested in child rights through a rights perspective.
Through its internship programme, the centre aims at inculcating an understanding of child rights through a rights perspective. Interning at CCL provides students with an opportunity to access its library.
Interns are expected to be professional in their conduct and are to abide by the rules and principles of conduct laid down by NLSIU.
Duration of Internship
The minimum duration of the internship is 30 working days or 4 weeks. Relaxation may be granted in exceptional circumstances subject to approval from the central coordinator. Such a request will have to be made through the concerned Programme head.
Scheme of Internship
- At the beginning of the internship, the intern must meet the Centre Coordinator, other Programme Heads and staff at CCL as soon as the internship begins.
- The tasks should be completed by the intern, and this will be monitored and followed throughout the internship period.
- During the internship period, interns may be asked to attend seminars, conferences and any other field based events based on the invitations they will get from their Supervisors or from the centre coordinator.
- The intern must provide timely updates on the progress made on the tasks, and submit reports to their respective-supervisor.
- Interns may be asked to share the research assigned to them in the form of a paper and they are expected to make a presentation before the end of the internship.
- Interns must submit a final report to the supervisor after incorporating the suggestions and inputs provided by the supervisor and the final copy is to be marked to the internship-in charge for documentation and processing the certificate.
Eligibility
The centre has accepted interns from all across the country from the fields of law, social work, psychology, engineering etc. Being a multi-disciplinary centre, applications are invited from interested students from all fields.
Application procedure
- CCL, NLSIU takes interns for regular on-site internships within the office space as for field research for specific activities and campaigns related to child rights.
- The intern must indicate his/her choice of interest for internship i.e., Child Protection, Right to Education or Right to Food etc.
- All applications for internships should reach the internship in charge at least 2 months before the commencement of the proposed internship. Late applications will not be considered.
- The candidates interested in doing an internship must submit their application at least 2 months in advance providing the following information in the application:
- Name
- Email Address
- Phone number
- Course of Study
- Name of the College/University
- Current Year of Study
- Preferred duration of internship (with dates)
- Area of Interest (Select from the dropdown)
- Previous internship details
- Statement of Purpose
- Writing Sample on the subject of interest within the scope of child rights
Once the internship application is approved by the concerned Programme head, a formal email will be sent from CCL, NLSIU.

Important Note: The number of interns accepted depends on the activities being conducted. If you do not hear from CCL within 3 weeks of applying, please assume that your application has not been successful. Due to the high volume of applications, communication via phone or email will not be entertained in this regard.
Issuance of Certificate
On successful completion of all mandatory requirements during the internship to the complete satisfaction of the Supervisor and the Centre Coordinator.
Other Information
- All internships are subject to availability of vacancy/topics in CCL, NLSIU.
- Interns are requested to bring their own laptops to do work.
- Intern should hold regular interaction on the progress of the research with the supervisor.
- CCL, NLSIU will not provide any financial assistance during the internship.
