The National Commission for Women (NCW) is a statutory agency of the Indian government tasked with providing advice to the government on all policy issues affecting women. It was founded on January 31, 1992, following the requirements of the Indian Constitution as outlined by the National Commission for Women Act of 1990.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) was established as a statutory body to review the Constitutional and legal safeguards available to women, recommend remedial measures to remove impediments to achieving these goals, facilitate grievance redress, and advise the government on all policy matters affecting women. The Commission also holds workshops/consultations, appoints expert committees, conducts studies and makes suggestions for women’s economic empowerment, holds gender awareness workshops/seminars, and engages in public awareness campaigns against such social ills.
FURTHER DETAILS
NCW decided to engage interns in the National Commission for Women with immediate effect, to effectively disseminate knowledge/information on women related issues and build a pool of trained manpower.
Accordingly, it has been decided to offer the following categories of internship:
- Scheme A: Unpaid Internship for a period not less than 30 days for 1st-year students of 3-year LLB Course or 3rd-year student of 5 years LLB Course/Post Graduate in Sociology/Social Work 1st year
- Scheme B: Paid Internship for a period of 60 days: Students of the second year of 3-year LLB Course/4th / 5th year BA LLB/BBA LLB/ B.Sc LLB Courses/2nd year Post Graduate Sociology/Social Work/ Gender Issue/ Women studies/Gender studies/Students of LLM/ M.Phil/Ph.D/Ph.D Scholars
Internship Roles and Responsibilities
Each intern will be required to keep a journal of their work in the Commission on each day of their internship. All interns will also be required to sign a confidentiality declaration regarding information/documents that come to their attention.
Criteria for Eligibility
For a minimum of 30 days:
Students in their first year of a 3-year LLB course OR in their third year of a 5-year LLB course/Post Graduate in Sociology/Social Work Year one
For a minimum of 60 days
Students enrolled in the second year of a three-year LLB programme OR 4th/5th year BA LLB/BBA LLB/ B.Sc LLB programmes OR 2nd year postgraduate sociology/social work/gender issues/women studies/gender studies OR LLM/M.Phil/Ph.D/Ph.D scholars.
Stipend
A period of less than 60 days Internship: If the interns work for less than 60 days, no honorarium will be granted.
For the next 60 days Internship: Rs. 10,000 per month
What is the procedure for applying?
Students interested in interning with the NCW should submit their applications using the required proforma, noting the days they would like to intern with the Commission in the calendar year 2021.
It is also possible to attach a letter of recommendation from the Head of the Institution/Authorised Signatory.
SELECTION BASIS
- Scheme A: On a first-come, first-served basis, provided that all qualifying requirements are met.
- Scheme B: 50% weighting for the percentage achieved in the previous two years and 50% weighting for the quality of the ‘Statement of Purpose’ uploaded as part of the proforma.

The project will run from May 6th, 2021, to December 31st, 2021.
