About the Conference
The Charles University Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that an international conference titled “European Constitutionalism and the Virus of Distrust” will be held in Prague (Czech Republic) on April 27-28, 2022. The Department of Constitutional Law now invites paper submissions for the conference.
One of the basic features of the present is that we have never lived “in one world as we do today. As a result, we face problems that can no longer be solved at local level only in the territory of one state. One of the key issues we face on all continents is the crisis of trust in modern constitutionalism and its principles as well as guarantees. This problem manifests itself in a number of very diverse phenomena: from issues of the classic elements of the division of power, including the tension between the legislature and the judiciary, to the system of human rights protection, both at national and international level. The conference seeks to capture and discuss these individual phenomena, which pose challenges to modern constitutionalism.
Topics may include but are not limited to:
- liberal democracy and its rivals
- traditional origins of constitutionalism and their legitimacy in the present day
- liberal constitutionalism and the bales of past centuries
- covid-19 and (dis)trust, vaccination, reservation of conscience
- identity, migration and nation
- legality and legitimacy of the “new” human rights.
