PhD scholarship to join the Women, Listening and Law Project

The Project

The Women, Listening and Law project is pleased to offer a PhD scholarship to investigate the women, listening and law reform.  As part of this project, you will contribute to the investigation of how the legal system listens (and should listen) to women in law and policy reform processes. You may design the focus and methods of your project in consultation with your supervisors (Professor Nan Seuffert, Professor Cassandra Sharp and Dr Sarah Ailwood). We particularly welcome proposals seeking to investigate voice and listening in relation to young women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women (who have most consistently and persistently called for listening in law reform processes), culturally and linguistically diverse women, or another diverse group of women.

The Legal Intersections Research Centre highly values interdisciplinary research, and we would welcome proposals from candidates with a socio-legal, law and humanities or other cross-disciplinary approach. You will have the option of building on methods already developed in the larger project, or drawing on other methods of your choosing.

Eligibility

You should have an LLB or JD, or a Masters in Law. Completion of a thesis at Honours or Masters level, or equivalent professional research experience, is highly desirable. Candidates from diverse backgrounds, or with experience working with disadvantaged groups, are especially encouraged to apply. You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and willing/able to attend on the main campus at the University of Wollongong as needed.

Scholarship value

The Scholarship consists of a stipend of $29, 863 per annum, indexed for inflation, for 3.5 years, together with a full fee waiver.
