roles and obligations
Over two million constituents are represented by each Member of Parliament (MP) in India. Every year, the Indian Parliament passes 60 bills on average. MPs draft legislation and deal with intricate policy problems across many industries. It is impossible for MPs to be knowledgeable about every one of these topics given the variety of difficulties and the technical nature of many of them.
In this situation, PRS offers legislative and policy analysis to MPs to aid in their preparation for parliamentary discussions.
C.V. Madhukar and M.R. Madhavan together created PRS in 2005. The PRS is now led by M.R. Madhavan. The Board of Directors is led by Mr. S. Ramadorai. The initiative was developed by the renowned Indian think tank, the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), in New Delhi. Since 2013, the initiative has taken the form of the Institute for Policy Research Studies, a Section 8 Company that is not for profit.
PRS receives all of its funding from philanthropic grants and donations from various Indian organizations and individuals.
Information on the Research Internship
PRS offers revolving internship opportunities all year long. The PRS personnel is made up of a group of committed experts from several fields who are roughly separated into the research and outreach sections.
The outreach team monitors the activities of legislatures and politicians, oversees citizen participation, and serves as PRS’s point of contact with MPs and MLAs while the research team analyzes legislative and policy issues of current concern.
An applicant for an internship in either/both departments is welcome.
Please take note that PRS Legislative is only taking applicants for the October 2023 term at this time. This internship is not online.
Framework for the Internship
During sessions and off-sessions, the internship varies.
Interns are expected to collaborate with analysts on any projects during a Parliamentary session as PRS’s work is informed by the topics discussed in Parliament.
