ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR COMPARATIVE STUDIES IN PERSONAL LAWS (CPL):
Research in the field of personal laws is required to be done in India due to its multicultural and religiously diverse society. The Centre aims to undertake research and impart legal education to all concerned regarding matters relating to personal, matrimonial, succession and other family laws and to provide counseling, assistance, and litigation support, in case of any dispute arises in the related issues. Keeping in mind the changes in social set-up, behavioral patterns of younger and older generations and ever-widening gap between them, the Centre takes up various initiatives to improve inter-se relations to bring about peace and tranquility in the society. Research on different socially relevant topics, analysis of current laws, policies, programmes and judicial pronouncements are carried out. To collaborate and liaise with public and private institutions and NGOs, to invite scholars, academicians, lawyers and judges for lectures and dialogues on contemporary issues relating to children, women, elderly, family etc. and to organize seminars, conferences and debates on various topics related to society, concerning its different stakeholders, primarily on personal laws are some of the main objectives of the Centre.
