About Rayat College of Law :
Rayat College of Law, established in 2004, is housed in an independent building at the Rayat Group of Institutions Ropar Campus. The College is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh, and the courses are approved by the Bar Council of India.
Equipped with infrastructure including a Moot Court, state-of-the-art Library, and Computer Lab with a 24-hour internet facility and a fully functional Wi-Fi Campus, the College provides an excellent environment for learning and holistic development.
About the Society :
The Literary Society at Rayat College of Law is a new, premier organization that encourages healthy and meaningful discourse by actively engaging in debates and public speaking events.
Topic for the Debate :
The Government of India should Legalise all or nearly all of one or more of the following in the country:
- Marijuana
- Prostitution
- Physician-Assisted Suicide
- Sale of Human Organs
Team Composition :
- All participating colleges/universities/institutes must nominate a team comprising two members each.
- Each team must consist of two participants: speaker one and speaker two.
- One observer may be allowed to accompany the teams but no certificate shall be provided for the same.
Structure of the Competition :

- The competition will be a cross-questioning debate and will be held in 4 rounds:
- Qualifier round; quarter-final; semi-final, finals.
- The first round will be of 40 minutes, the Second and third rounds will be of 60 minutes each, and the last round will last for a total of 80 minutes.
- The format for the debate for all-around other than the final round will be as follows:
- Each speaker will be given a total of 5 minutes in 1st round and 6 minutes in 2nd & the 3rd round to present their constructive argument followed by a round of cross-questioning by the opposite team.
- Each cross-questioning round will last for a total of 2 minutes in 1st round and 4 minutes in 2nd & 3rd rounds and will take place after each constructive argument
- After the presentation of arguments by both speakers of affirmative and negative sides, a round of rebuttal from the sides will take place for time of period of 1 minute in 1st round and 3 minutes in 2nd & 3rd rounds.
- Followed by the rebuttal round, a semi-moderated open cross-questioning, round that will take place for a total of 10 minutes and 14 minutes

Up to Rs. 22,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top-performing participants.
