The summer and winter courses constitute the major activity of the Academy. Regarding the summer courses, they are organized in two sessions of three weeks each, one focused on public international law and the other on private international law.
Summer courses are aimed at students and practitioners with prior training in public or private international law. Given in English or French, they are translated simultaneously into the other language.
Each summer school session consists of a general course that lasts three full weeks, special courses of one week each (covering six different topics in total), as well as seminars and so-called “afterward” conferences. -noon “. All courses and lectures are delivered by renowned academics, practitioners and diplomats from various institutions around the world.
Since opening its doors in 1923, thousands of students of more than 100 different nationalities have been able to attend the Academy’s summer courses. Many former students, having had the opportunity to meet “big names” in the field of international law, subsequently became recognized academics, jurists or diplomats, among other professions.
After having been taught, the courses are subsequently published in the Recueil des cours , which currently has more than 410 volumes, ranking among the most important encyclopedic publications devoted to public and private international law.
Since 2019, the Academy also offerswinter courseat the beginning of January.

IMPORTANT PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
- The registration period for sending a request for participation in the summer course always opens on November 1st ;
- Incomplete registration forms will not be considered;
- The email address indicated at the time of registration will be used for all correspondence with the Academy. Candidates must ensure that their email address is active and check it regularly;
- Registration can only be done online , without sending paper copies by mail or additional documents by email which will not be taken into consideration;
- Attachments to the application must be in PDF format, with the exception of identity photographs (.jpeg format only);
- If you are unable to register, you are advised to change your web browser.
FULL PRICE REGISTRATION
1. Please consult the conditions of admission;
2. Before completing the online form, prepare the documents to attach as attachments:
- a copy of the valid passport or identity card;
- an identity photograph;
- for students: certificate of registration (or transcripts) issued by the university;
- for professionals: employment certificate issued by the employer;
- copy of the highest diploma or copy of an official university document attesting to its preparation (or transcripts). If the document is written in a language other than English or French, please attach a translation into one of these two languages. The document can be translated by the interested party, who will attach a sworn declaration certifying the accuracy of the translation and including the date, place, name and signature.
Applicants for a paid position will receive a response regarding their application within 2 to 4 weeks maximum.
REGISTRATION FOR A SCHOLARSHIP AND/OR DIRECTORS OF STUDY
1. Please consult the admission conditions for an application for a sotck exchange, doctoral scholarship and/or the page concerning study directions;
2. The following documents will be added to the documents required for full price registration (see above):
- a resume ;
- a short cover letter (typed, 1.5 pages maximum) which will clearly indicate whether you are applying for a scholarship, for a direction of studies or for both;
- a letter of recommendation from a professor of international law, sent separately by the professor himself.
For applications for a doctoral scholarship only:
- a resume ;
- the cover letter must include a sworn statement indicating that, barring unforeseen events or difficulties, the thesis is nearing completion;
- the letter of recommendation from the thesis director must confirm that the thesis is nearing completion;
- a note indicating the precise subject of the thesis and its plan.
The results of the selection of applications for a scholarship, doctoral scholarship and/or study directions will be communicated to applicants by email during April.
How to have the letter of recommendation sent by the professor:
The professor must indicate his name, the university or structure to which he belongs and his email address. The letter of recommendation must be written in English or French. It must then be signed and sent by its author in PDF format to[email protected]. The Academy does not send any requests to teachers. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to ensure that this letter is sent by their teacher before registration closes. The author of the letter is requested not to send a hard copy to the Academy.
When registering online, the candidate must indicate the name of the teacher. Letters of recommendation received will be placed in the candidate’s file.
