GNLU Centre for Intellectual Property Rights
Recognizing the immense potential of Intellectual Property Rights to guide the domestic innovative and creative industries towards growth on the global platform, GNLU established the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights in January 2016. The Centre was established with a three-fold objective, to encourage academic discourse on IPR and allied subjects; to develop research plans for exclusive on-field studies and to create better awareness among stakeholders by designing and conducting programs. Despite the unprecedented challenges of Covid, the Centre continued its operations and in 2021 introduced a PG Diploma in IPR which is currently in its fourth successful year.
PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), in recent years, has emerged as perhaps the most important branch of Law having a multidisciplinary approach. Particularly in the recent past, the reach and importance has immensely grown, touching several types of industries and businesses. PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights is designed to impart knowledge in the field of intellectual property law with an analytical overview of the content and structure of the laws protecting various types of intellectual property. This interdisciplinary programme is aimed to lay a strong foundation of understanding on the multifaceted role that IP laws play in various fields. The programme is conceived with an objective to examine all aspects of Indian legal framework on Intellectual Property Rights focusing particularly on fundamental principles and the application of the same to new technologies. The Programme consists of eight courses, in two semesters:
Semester 1
1. Indian Legal System: A Primer
2. Nature, Origin and Evolution of Intellectual Property
3. Law of Patents
4. Law of Trademarks and Geographical Indications
Semester 2
5. Law of Copyright and Industrial Designs
6. IPR and Biotechnology, Plant Varieties, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions
7. IPR: Valuation, Management, Litigation and Dispute Resolution
8. Dissertation
Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline from any recognized University
No. of seats: 60
Programme Fee:
Rs. 25,000/- for the entire programme
Programme Duration:
One year Classes will be held on weekends except for public holidays. Classes will be conducted in Blended Model i.e., students would have to be on campus for examination and assignments as a requirement of the course.
