Call for Papers: Law of the Sea in the ASEAN Mari me Domain! Submit Now!
The Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (MPFPR) is pleased to invite papers for a special issue on the Law of the Sea in the ASEAN Maritime Domain to be prepared and published as part of the ongoing ASEAN-MPFPR Coopera on Project entitled “Strengthening Regional Integration and the Implementation of a Rules-Based International Order in ASEAN”.
Theme
The Association of Southeast Asian Na ons (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers’ Statement of December 2023 “recognised the need to maintain and strengthen stability in the maritime sphere” in Southeast Asia and “underlined the importance of strengthening maritime coopera on and exploring new initiative towards this end, as appropriate”.
Likewise, the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific of 22 June 2019 fosters maritime coopera on in a wider Indo-Pacific region, with Southeast Asia laying at its centre. Universally recognised principles of international law, including those found within the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, are considered as the foundations upon which regional efforts in both domains will advance.
Eligibilty
Diverse perspectives from academics, practioners, policymakers, and legal experts, including co-authored submissions are welcome. Any queries or clarifications concerning possible submissions may be addressed to the guest editors who are happy to provide feedback.
Submissions
Abstracts of approximately 500 words, together with a short biography (max 200 words) should be submitted to the guest editors ([email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]) by 20 June 2024.
The editors will take a decision on the selec on of papers by 4 July 2024 for publication in either a special issue of an academic journal or an edited volume. Full draft papers (5,000- 12,000 words) are to be submitted by 1 October 2024. The final version following peer review is due 15 January 2025 for an anticipated publication in June 2025.
