National Eligibilty Test (NET) as an Entrance Test for Admission to Ph.D
The [University Grants Commission conducts the National Eligibility Test (NI’-‘l ) through thc National Testing Agcncy (N1’A). The NII-| is conducted twice a year. in June and December. Currently. the Nli’l scores are used (a) to award. junior Research Fellowship (JRI:) and (b) as eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professor for those with a Master’s degree.
Based on Experts Commitee Recommendations, in its 578th meeting on 13 March 2024, the UGC has decided that from the academic session 2024-24, the NET score can be used for admission to Ph.D programmes in place of entrance test conducted by different universities.
From June 2024, onwards, therefore, the NET candidates will be declared eligible in three categories:
Category-1 Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D with JRF (ii) appointment of Assitant Professor
Category- 2 Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D without JRF (ii) appointment of Assitant Professor
Category- 3 Eligible for admission to Ph.D only and not for the ward for JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor
