The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, (DBRANLU) established by the Government of Haryana stands as a testament to the legacy of Dr. B.R. The establishment of the “Centre for Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution” at Dr B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of excellence in the fields of conflict management and dispute resolution. This centre serves as a focal point for advancing knowledge, promoting academic discourse, and encouraging practical skills in various methods of conflict resolution, including mediation, arbitration, negotiation, and conciliation.

About the Competition

At the Centre for Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, we firmly believe in promoting innovation and brainstorming ideas related to mediation as a source for dispute resolution. We consider ideas as the driving force for change. With our National Essay Writing Competition 2024, we aim to inspire participants to think outside the box and delve into the intricacies, implications, and challenges within the realm of dispute resolution and conflict management.

Through this competition, we aim to stimulate intellectual discourse and critical analysis of various aspects of mediation, including its principles, processes, techniques, and ethical considerations. By inviting submissions from law students, academicians, practitioners, and researchers from around the globe, the competition seeks to encourage in-depth research, empirical studies, and theoretical exploration of mediation practices across different contexts and jurisdictions. Additionally, we seek to advance networking and collaboration among participants, providing a platform for sharing insights, best practices, and innovative approaches to mediation. Through recognition and reward for outstanding contributions, the competition aims to celebrate excellence in scholarly writing and research on mediation, with a view to advancing knowledge, promoting professional development, and enhancing the effectiveness of mediation as a means of resolving conflicts and promoting access to justice.

Eligibility

Students (of all streams), Academics, Professionals, Government Officials, Members of Consumer Forum, Voluntary Consumer Organizations (VCOs)/ NGOs etc.

Submission Guidelines

  • The essay must be written in English and submitted in Microsoft Word document format (.doc/. docx).
  • Each essay must be submitted by a single author only. No co-authorship is permitted.
  • Only a single submission is allowed per author.
  • Main Body: Font – Times New Roman, Font Size – 12, and Line Spacing – 1.5; Footnotes: Font – Times New Roman, Font Size – 10, and Line Spacing – 1.0; Margins should be 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides; justified alignment.
  • The word limit is 1500 – 2500 words excluding footnotes. Footnotes must follow the Bluebook format of citation (Harvard, 20th edition).
  • The essay must be accompanied by a separate document containing the following:
  • full details of the participant i.e. name, institution affiliation, phone number, email ID etc;
  • theme/topic chosen;
  • A declaration stating that the essay is an original work of the author: “I certify that my submission is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under review or consideration elsewhere.”
  • With the signature of the author in .pdf Format.
  • All submissions are subject to plagiarism check. A maximum of 10% similarity to existing publications is permissible in submitted works (excluding citations).
