Call for Papers! ALSA’s Legal Education Conference (ALEC) 2024! 11th to 12th October 2024!

The Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia (UM) jointly collaborates with Asian Law Schools Association (ALSA) and the Malaysian Law Deans Council to organise the Legal Education Conference in October this year. Themed, ‘Emerging Challenges and Opportunities for Legal Education and Training,’ the conference seeks to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas on the evolving landscape of legal education and training.

It further aims to provide a platform for interdisciplinary discussions and an opportunity for participants to share their research, experiences, and ideas on emerging challenges and opportunities for legal education and training. The conference will be held at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya from 11th to 12th October 2024.

Call for Papers and Panels

We invite scholars, including young scholars and doctoral students, practitioners, policymakers, and experts from various regions and disciplines including law, social science, law, international relations, technology, management, policy, and science, technology, and society (STS) to submit abstracts for papers on topics that may include, but are not limited to:

  • i) Globalization and Legal Education: Preparing Lawyers for a Borderless World
  • ii) Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice: Clinical Programs, Apprenticeships, and Experiential Learning
  • iii) Emerging Technologies and the Law: AI, Robotics, Big Data, Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, Space Law, Climate Change and Environment, Healthcare, Child, Gender, and the Evolving Skillset
  • iv) The Future of Legal Jobs: Legal Tech, Specialization, and the Changing Demands of the Profession
  • v) Access and Inclusion in Legal Education: Creating a Diverse and Equitable Pipeline for Lawyers
  • vi) Rethinking the Law School Curriculum for a Globalized World
  • vii) The Future of Legal Education Assessment: Evaluating Skills Beyond the Bar Exam
  • viii) The Role of International Collaboration in Restructuring Legal Education
  • ix) The Globalization of Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Papers and panels submission procedure

 

Abstract Submission

 

Deadline: July 15, 2024
Word Count: 300-500 words
Submission Format: English language, submitted through the designated online portal (link to be announced)
Review Process: Blind peer review by a panel of experts
Notification of Acceptance: Abstracts and the conference schedule will be announced by July 25, 2024

 

Full Paper and Presentation Submission (for Accepted Abstracts)

 

Full Paper Submission (for review) Deadline: August 20, 2024
Review Decision: August 31, 2024
Recommended Length: 3,000-6,000 words (shorter and longer submissions considered)
Final Paper Submission Dateline: September 15, 2024
Presentation Slides Deadline: September 30, 2024
