We seek to fill the position of

Associate Communications (gn)

full-time (40 hours/week), to start as soon as possible. The contract is limited for 12 months.

The contract shall commence as soon as possible and is limited for 12 months. The successful candidate will work at our Centre for Fundamental Rights and will be responsible all communications related activities for the research project Algorithmic Fairness for Asylum Seekers and Refugees (AFAR).
The AFAR research project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation as part of its “Challenges for Europe” programme.

Your tasks:

  • Development and implementation of communication strategies for both the Centre for Fundamental Rights (CFR) and the AFAR project, in close collaboration with Centre Manager and project PI;
  • Internal communication across the AFAR project teams, working closely with the AFAR PI and postdocs to ensure regular team meetings and communication;
  • Media outreach on behalf of the CFR and AFAR, including social and traditional media
  • Content creation and editing for the CFR and AFAR websites and media channels, including the development of graphic and video materials.
  • Content creation for traditional media, including op-eds and other content on CFR research, teaching and outreach.
  • Creation of CFR and AFAR newsletters and management of CFR external relations database, and distribution of newsletters.
  • Organisation of events for the AFAR project, in particular AFAR Science Communication events.
  • Development and drafting of AFAR policy briefs in coordination with the research team, and developing a dissemination strategy for these.
  • Implementation and documentation of AFAR Science Communication Strategy.
  • Coordination with external partners for AFAR Science Communication activities (e.g. with web designer, animator for short videos, NGOs).
  • Support the conceptualisation and implementation of the AFAR podcast and other media content.

Your profile:

  • University degree in communications or a related field.
  • Initial professional experience in tasks relevant to the position.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in website management tools and graphic design software for promotional materials.
  • Proficiency in recording and editing videos for promotional use, including familiarity with relevant software and techniques.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong writing abilities and experience in text editing.
  • Familiarity with current debates in human rights, particularly concerning new technologies and human rights.
